Art Class Fun

I signed Ayden up for a 4 week toddler art class this month. Today was week number 2. Last week didn't go so well, and I was hoping Ayden was just having an off day and not going to be a child that hates art. Last week he was clingy and didn't want to do anything until the nice teacher got down some trucks for him to play with. This week the teacher had a truck painting activity which Ayden enjoyed. The kids dipped the truck tires in paint and then rolled them on their paper to make designs.

Another activity was to build igloos with sugar cubes and frosting. Ayden has never seen a sugar cube before, but the first thing he did was pop it into his mouth. It was all downhill from there. I would attempt to get him to build and he would lick frosting and pop sugar cubes in his mouth. He is definitely my child:)

He didn't enjoy the glitter/glue activity though. He didn't like the glitter getting stuck on his fingers...

Since it has been so nice out we have been playing outside a lot. Ayden is still a huge fan of pushing things around. He still likes his mower, but now he enjoys pushing behind the wagon while I pull it as we go on walks. I also let him push the jogging stroller on the short walk home on the gravel road after I take him jogging. He is as obsessed as ever with tractors and trucks. Everything is tractor this and that. His birthday theme next month is going to be tractors, John Deere, of course:) He is becoming more talkative and is saying a lot of new words. Whenever he sees a lawnmower or his push mower he says "more"-close enough.

A few weeks ago I dropped Ayden off at my parents so they could watch him while I went shopping with a friend for the day. My sister was there too to help my mom. I think they all had a lot of fun and they said he was really good and didn't throw any tantrums. I haven't been away from him for a whole day in a really long time, but was glad he did well.

Joel and Ayden gave me a huge surprise for Mother's Day/early b-day present. They surprised me with a Kindle! I love it! It's so nice to be able to download books wirelessly and most books are $9.99 or less. Even bestsellers and hardcovers:) I thought I would really miss reading a physical book, but there are things I love about a Kindle. It always keeps your place and when you turn it on it remembers where you were at, you can make the font as big or as small as you want (I can now read on the treadmill easier because I don't have to turn a page except hit a small button and I can make the font huge so I can actually see it). I also like that it tells you what percentage of the way through a book you are. It's a book lover's dream:) It also reads the book aloud to you if you want.

Our home improvement projects are coming along well. We are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel finally! I just finished painting the basement tonight. We are also getting new carpet in about a month. We still need to sand down the doors and paint them, and replace the trim down there. Then we just have to paint the kitchen and master bath and replace the trim, and then replace the top of the deck and we will be done!! I'm so excited. I'm hoping we can get it on the market by sometime in August or early fall. I'm so ready to live in Ames and not have to drive 40 miles there and back every time we have an activity or want to go to a decent store.

Well, hopefully I can keep this updated a little better from now on. That is my goal at least, so we will see:)

Have some fun in those art classes, Ayden. Get messy! Be creative!
Kindle is awesome. I got one back in November. I don't miss having the actual book in my hand at all. The books that I think I would like to have around in the future like "The Girls from Ames" I just go buy the book instead of downloading. The kindle is great for traveling.
Can't wait to see photos of Ayden's John Deere birthday party.
